Rise of the Guardians: Purpose In Life Chapter 6

*Jack's POV*

I flew as fast as I could to North's place and then landed inside his workshop. "North-" I started to say.

"I know," He told me, dread in his big eyes. "Pitch is back."

Just then, Tooth and her fairies flew inside, Bunny's hole appeared in the ground and he hopped out, and Sandy came in on his sand plane.

"What is it, North?" Tooth asked worriedly. "What happened here?"

"I'm afraid..." North said, hesitantly. "...Pitch has returned."

Tooth gasped, her hands covering her mouth. Her fairies also squeaked in fright.

"North," I finally said to North. "Pitch came to Burgess as well. He said that he's going to destroy Christmas."

"I know, Jack," He replied. "When he was here in workshop, he told me the same thing. And that's not all. He said that he's teamed up with new allies. I have feeling they're as dangerous and powerful as he is."

"Oh no," Tooth started to panic even harder, but Bunny and Sandy went to comfort her. "What are we going to do?"

"Hey, look," Bunny then pointed to where Manny was, shining in the sky. That meant he had some news. "Manny's here."

"Ah, Manny," North laughed heartily. "What is it this time?"

As his answer, the moon crystal rose up from the ground and started to shine bright as well. We all knew what that meant.

"Another new Guardian?" Tooth said excitedly to North. "Oh wow! I wonder who it's gonna be this time?"

A question mark shone above Sandy's head, shrugging.

Just then, the light took shape into a girl. She wore a cowgirl hat with fake bull horns, carried two guns, and wore other cowgirl clothes. She even had a scar over her left eye.

"The April Fool." North said.

"What?" I asked, totally confused. I always thought for 300 years that the April Fool was supposed to be a jester.

"The April Fool, Jack," Tooth told me. "Manny and us have all heard of her. Now she's a new Guardian too!"

I looked over at Bunny, to see him staring at the girl's silhouette, pretty darn awestruck. I walked over to him and waved a hand in front of his eyes. "Hey Bunny!" I said, snapping him out of it.

"Wha-? Nothing, mate! Nothing!" Bunny came to his senses.

Now I could tell that Bunny really likes the new girl.

*My POV*

The clouds stayed dark and the oncoming storm was getting worse. I knew I couldn't let the kids walk home all alone, so I had to help them get to their homes safely. But then, lightning struck a high tree branch, setting it on fire, and it plummeted down...right toward Jamie!

Thinking quickly, I pushed him out of the way along with the other kids. But when they were out of harms way, the branch hit me instead...and it burnt my hand real bad! Screaming in agony, I held it, "AAAAHH!!"

"Shannon!" Lisa cried.

"You okay?" Jamie added.

"Yeah," I replied. "I think so. Just a little burnt, I think." I could see the looks of great concern on all of the kids faces. "Hey," I assured them, a calm smile. "I'm okay. I've been burnt on the hand a few times before. It's okay."

Later on, after getting all of the kids safely home, I was already prepared for bed that night. But I started to feel like that I was burning up inside. Panicking, I closed my door and collapsed on my new bed.

"Aw great," I moaned. "Just great. First, I had a dangerous encounter with Pitch, Then a bad storm. And now, I feel like I'm running an extreme fever."

"Night Shannie," I heard my Mommy calling me. "Love you."

"Night Mommy," I called back, weakly. "Love you, too."

As I slowly started to drift off into sleep, I couldn't help but think that Pitch was just about to kiss me earlier today.

Then my body started cooling off, and that's when I finally fell into an uneasy sleep. And I was having an incredible dream. I thought it was trying to tell me something, I don't know.
